Smoked Salmon Hors d’Oeuvres

Oh, wow. I have been so, so busy these last two weeks! I have been having a blast but obviously haven’t been posting as many recipes as I’d like…

paleo hors d'oeuvresI was in Bend, Oregon during the first weekend of August for my sister’s wedding (!!) and San Francisco this past weekend for Outside Lands Music Festival. Saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers live. Epic.

Things aren’t slowing down either. I am leaving for Europe this Friday and will be vacationing in Denmark and the South of France for the following five weeks. Super excited to roam around french markets and eat lots of fresh seafood.

DSC_0022During the past two weeks my diet hasn’t been optimal but I stayed as clean as possible; that included french fries and cake…oops?

I am seriously taking advantage of being in my own kitchen until I leave for Europe. Yesterday I made some of my favorite balsamic chicken with cinnamon roasted sweet potatoes. YUM. I needed that, so badly.


Today, I made this yummy smoked salmon hors d’oeuvre to snack on. Super good. These are so perfect to bring to a party or to serve as an appetizer if your hosting your own dinner. Or, you could be like me and make this fancy little snack for a mid-day pick me up.

+ 10-15 pieces smoked salmon (look for minimal ingredients)

+ 1 cucumber, sliced into half moons

+ thinly sliced red onion

+ capers

+ toothpick


1. Lay smoked salmon flat on clean surface (ex. cutting board, plate)

2. Place 1 piece of sliced and halved cucumber, 3-4 strands sliced red onion and 4-5 capers on one end of the smoked salmon piece

3. Carefully roll salmon over cucumber/onion/capers and continue to roll up into a little wrap.

4. Secure with toothpick.

5. Repeat until you have as many appetizers as desired.
